Russian FM says his country “burned” many times throughout history

Russia do not enter into any agreements without pragmatism and a balance of interests, says Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, noting that his country has already been “burned” many times throughout its history.

Speaking at a meeting with students and faculty at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), he stated that whenever they reach agreements with someone, they are based on pragmatism, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“On our side, there are still certain emotions, given the strength of our character. We love fairy tales, fables and Russian literature in general, which teaches humanity,” the FM stressed. “But pragmatism is, of course, present. Without pragmatism and a balance of interests, we do not enter into any agreements.”

He also said the West is “engaged in plunder” both with regard to assets and the “shadow fleet,” adding that “the West is doing everything it can to overshadow the upcoming elections in Russia.”
