Russian fertiliser producers ask gov't to impose price cap for sulfur Amid soaring prices
Russian fertiliser producers have appealed to the government with a proposal to introduce a temporary price cap on sulfur, which has sharply increased in price due to supply shortages, a source familiar with the document said.
The Russian Association of Fertilizer Producers (RAPU) sent a letter in February to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
According to the source, stabilising sulfur prices would help ensure the steady operation of mineral fertiliser producers and sustain investment activity. It would also meet the needs of agricultural and industrial consumers, as well as fulfil export commitments.
The source added that RAPU members are ready to return to market-based pricing mechanisms once sulfur production and export volumes recover and the domestic market is fully supplied.
In November, the government introduced a temporary ban on exports of liquid, granular, and lump sulfur to support the domestic market. Industry experts had expected further increases in mineral fertiliser prices.
