REGION 29 May 2024 - 19:47
The development of Iran's relations with Iraq is a strategic, macro and national decision in Iran, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said, stressing the need to fully implement the Tehran-Baghdad agreement.
The Iraqi interior minister met and held talks with Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Maj-Gen Mohammad Bagheri, Mehrnews reports.
Their meeting took place at the National Defense University of Tehran on Wednesday.
In this meeting, the two sides discussed topics such as the Arbaeen pilgrimage, education, and border cooperation.
President Raisi paid special attention to the development of relations with the country of Iraq; During his tenure in the judiciary, they had traveled to Iraq, and he was going to make another trip to Iraq before the incident (helicopter crash) happened.
What is more important is that the development of relations with the country of Iraq was a strategic, macro, and national decision in the country and it has the emphasis of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the pillars of the system, Major General Mohammad Bagheri said in this meeting.
"Therefore this tragic incident did not affect the level of relations and our relations will be expanded," he added.

Referring to the activities of terrorist, separatist, and illegal groups in Iraqi Kurdistan, he said, "An agreement has been signed between the two countries regarding the disarmament and deployment of terrorist groups in controlled camps, which must be fully followed and implemented."
