Iran summons Ukrainian envoy over Kyiv’s support for Israeli strikes

Head of the Eurasian Countries Department at Iran’s Foreign Ministry Shahram Farsai has summoned Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires to deliver a formal note of protest in response to Kyiv’s statements endorsing Israeli strikes on Iranian territory.

During the meeting, Farsai stressed that by backing Israel’s military actions, the Ukrainian authorities have effectively disregarded their international legal obligations under the UN Charter and the four Geneva Conventions, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iran’s Foreign Ministry. 

He emphasised that such support undermines the principles and purposes enshrined in these foundational international agreements.

On June 13, Israel launched a military operation against Iran. Within 24 hours, the Islamic Republic responded with a retaliatory strike. The exchange of attacks has continued, with both sides reporting casualties and damage to various targets. According to official sources, both Iran and Israel have acknowledged that several facilities were hit in the ongoing conflict. In a further escalation, on June 22, US forces carried out airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites - Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan - raising fears of a broader regional confrontation.
