Georgian FM to push economic resilience at UN conference in Spain

30 June 2025 15:55

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili has arrived in Spain to participate in the 4th United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development.

The high-level gathering, taking place in Spain, has drawn participation from over 70 heads of state and government, foreign and finance ministers, as well as senior international policymakers, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

King Felipe VI of Spain will make opening remarks, with keynote addresses expected from UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

As part of the general debate, Minister Botchorishvili will deliver a speech highlighting Georgia’s contributions toward achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Her remarks will emphasize Georgia’s regional role, its commitment to economic resilience, and its track record in maintaining financial sustainability and fostering inclusive growth.

According to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the conference serves as a vital platform for global dialogue on reforming international financial structures and mobilising resources to meet the SDGs. Botchorishvili is also expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with her counterparts on the sidelines of the event, aimed at deepening strategic partnerships and advancing Georgia’s development agenda.

The 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), to be held at the FIBES Sevilla Exhibition and Conference Centre, presents a pivotal opportunity to advance comprehensive reforms in global financing mechanisms. This high-level forum is uniquely positioned to galvanize momentum toward overhauling the international financial architecture and addressing critical funding gaps that hinder the scale of investment urgently required to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

FFD4 stands as the sole global platform where leaders from national governments, international and regional organizations, financial and trade institutions, the private sector, civil society, and the United Nations system convene at the highest levels. This inclusive and collaborative environment fosters enhanced multilateral cooperation, enabling strategic dialogue and coordinated action to strengthen the global financing landscape and accelerate sustainable development worldwide.
