President Erdoğan meets with UK foreign secretary in Ankara
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy on June 30 in Ankara.
The high-level meeting was held at the Presidential Palace and took place behind closed doors, with no press present, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy’s visit to Ankara comes amid renewed momentum in Türkiye's bid to purchase Eurofighter Typhoon jets.
The UK has voiced strong support for the deal, with Lammy stating that all four consortium members, the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain, back the sale. The deal had previously been stalled due to German opposition, largely linked to regional tensions.
However, Lammy noted recent progress, crediting the UK’s diplomatic efforts with Berlin. Turkish President Erdoğan also mentioned “positive developments” following recent NATO talks, signalling potential breakthroughs.
