Over 50,000 relocated following forest fires in Türkiye
In the aftermath of recent forest fires that have affected Türkiye's provinces of İzmir, Bilecik, and Hatay, more than 50,000 residents have been temporarily relocated to safer areas as precautionary measures.
Initial damage assessments reveal significant losses: in Bilecik, 64 residences, 3 businesses, and 20 barns were damaged, while İzmir saw damage to 132 residences and 1 business, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish Internal Minister Ali Yerlikaya's post on X.
According to the minister, in response, authorities have declared a “General Life Impact Decision” for both Bilecik and İzmir provinces to coordinate recovery efforts.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has mobilised emergency funds amounting to 60 million Turkish Lira ($1,5 million). This includes an equal allocation of 30 million TL ($754,670) each to the Bilecik and İzmir Governorates as part of the first phase of aid distribution.
Yerlikaya expressed his solidarity with those affected, stating, “I extend my best wishes for a speedy recovery to the citizens impacted by the fires. Our state, with all its institutions, stands firmly by the people during this difficult time. May Allah protect our country and nation from all kinds of disasters.”
