Minister: Azerbaijan’s COP29 experience "highly valuable" for Türkiye

Azerbaijan’s experience in preparing for and hosting COP29 is highly valuable for Türkiye as it prepares to host COP31, Turkish Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum said.

Kurum made the remarks at a press conference for international media representatives in Trabzon, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Commenting on the statement made during the opening of Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026) that cooperation between the COP29 and COP31 presidencies represents an example of regional solidarity, Kurum highlighted the close coordination between the two countries.

He noted that Mukhtar Babayev, Representative of the President of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues, Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev, and relevant Azerbaijani institutions have been providing close support to Türkiye in its preparations.

“Undoubtedly, our joint cooperation is also an example of solidarity for our region. Thanks to the high-level cooperation between our presidents, we are further strengthening our activities in all areas within the framework of our strategic partnership with Azerbaijan,” the minister emphasized.

Kurum also highlighted the important steps taken by Azerbaijan during COP29 and Brazil during COP30 in the area of climate finance.

“Azerbaijan successfully fulfilled its responsibility at COP29, Brazil continued this process at COP30, and now it is Türkiye's turn. As we host COP31 in Antalya, we want to carry this flag further, preserve the outcomes achieved through previous climate actions, and build on them with new results,” he added.

As part of preparations for COP31, Trabzon is hosting a two-day conference titled “Blue Dialogue” under the theme “Oceans and Seas: Climate Change and Resilience.” The event brings together 27 journalists from 17 countries.
