Iran suspends 10% freight surcharge for foreign oil tankers

10 September 2026 16:59

Iran has suspended a 10% surcharge on the freight costs of foreign tankers transporting oil and liquefied gas into and out of the country, the Fars news agency reported on Thursday, September 10.

“The authorities have ordered the suspension of the 10% charge based on the freight cost for foreign vessels importing and exporting oil and liquefied gas,” Fars reported.

Tehran expects the move to help boost Iran’s imports and exports by reducing the cost of shipping energy commodities to and from the country.

The decision comes as Iran has faced what it describes as a maritime blockade by the United States in recent months. Washington has sought to use pressure on Iran’s economy to push Tehran to accept U.S. terms for resolving the armed conflict.
