Fuel prices surge across Georgia as global costs rise

Fuel prices in Georgia have continued to climb in early September, with the pace of increases accelerating.

Prices for gasoline and diesel at some filling stations rose by 2–14 tetri per liter ($0.008–$0.054) during the first week of September, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

Market participants attribute the increase primarily to higher petroleum product prices on global markets and rising costs of supplies from European refineries. Georgia remains heavily dependent on imported fuel.

Industry representatives warn that the latest increases in wholesale prices have not yet been fully reflected in retail prices.

They say that if global petroleum product prices remain elevated, fuel prices at Georgian filling stations could rise further in the coming weeks.
