Armenia’s former revenue chief taken to court on medical stretcher PHOTO

10 September 2026 12:22

Former Chairman of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee Gagik Khachatryan, 71, was brought to court on a medical stretcher, unable to move independently.

A court hearing on changing the measure of restraint against Khachatryan is currently underway, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

Khachatryan has been held at the Yerevan-Kentron penitentiary since September 2. His defense team claims that he has not yet been examined by a doctor while in detention.

Following intervention by Armenia’s Human Rights Defender, Khachatryan was provided with a caregiver to assist him with basic needs, including eating. However, the caregiver’s visits are subject to restrictions.

Khachatryan was detained on September 1 following searches conducted as part of a criminal investigation into allegations of accepting a bribe and money laundering on an especially large scale.
