Afghan authorities fail to find al-Qaeda leader’s body after US strike
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has said that Afghan authorities did not find the body of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in Kabul after a US missile attack.
“We did not find any body after a US missile attack,” Mujahid told reporters, according to Russia’s Gazeta.ru.
Moreover, the Taliban previously noted that the movement does not have information about the whereabouts of Ayman al-Zawahiri.
Earlier, the Coordinator for strategic communications at the National Security Council of the White House John Kirby said that Washington has "visual and other" evidence of the death of the head of al-Qaeda, but there are no samples of his DNA.
Kirby emphasised that the US is entitled to conduct anti-terrorist operations in Afghanistan if necessary.
US Politico media company, citing its own sources, reported that the US carried out a counter-terrorism operation in Afghanistan last weekend, as a result of which al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed.
