African swine fever spreading in Armenia
African swine fever has spread in Armenia’s Kotayk (Yelkovan) province.
A video footage showing dozens of dead pigs has been disseminated, Caliber.Az reports citing the Armenian media.
The villagers blame the Economy Ministry and the Armenian prime minister’s administration for not responding to their appeals.
Some farmers lost 600 pigs, others - 400.
“The representatives from the Food Safety Inspectorate arrived and said that farmers are not entitled to sell dead livestock, they took samples to check whether it was African plague. The tests will be made abroad and the documents will be drawn up,” the farmer said.
He noted that veterinarians are sure that this is African swine fever, but the Food Safety Inspectorate does not confirm this not to pay 75-per cent compensation.
