Air traffic control failure disrupts Paris-Orly Airport for second consecutive day
Paris-Orly Airport continues to face significant disruptions on May 19, a day after a breakdown in the air traffic control system caused widespread flight cancellations and delays.
Although the situation is reportedly improving, travelers are still facing complications as a result of the technical failure, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
On May 18, France’s civil aviation regulator, the DGAC, had called for airlines to reduce flight operations by 40 per cent in response to the system breakdown. By May 19, the request was adjusted to a 15 per cent reduction in flights as the situation gradually stabilizes.
“The situation is improving,” the DGAC said in a statement, but cautioned that delays would persist despite the reduction in air traffic. “Despite these preventive measures, delays are expected,” the regulator added, without specifying the cause of the air traffic control failure.
The ongoing disruptions have particularly affected flights to Italy, Spain, Portugal, and southern France, with numerous cancellations reported at Paris-Orly. The airport, which handles both domestic and international flights—including major connections to European destinations and the United States—has been dealing with a ripple effect of cancellations and delays.
Passengers are being advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates as the DGAC works to restore normal operations.
