Algeria condemns Israeli plans to reoccupy Gaza, urges international action
Algeria has strongly condemned and outrightly rejected Israel’s plans to militarily reoccupy the Gaza Strip, warning that such actions threaten the future of Gaza, the Palestinian state, and peace across the entire region.
The statement was issued on August 9 by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Caliber.Az reports, citing Palestinian media.
Coming just days after an international conference reaffirmed the two-state solution as the only viable framework for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Algeria criticised Israel for disregarding the will and resolutions of the international community. The ministry described Israel’s intentions to forcibly and violently displace the Gaza population as a blatant violation of international consensus.
Algeria emphasised that the Gaza Strip remains an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories and is inseparable from the Palestinian state, whose legitimacy is recognized worldwide. The statement called on the international community, especially the United Nations Security Council, to take urgent action to halt Israel’s plans and end what Algeria termed a “genocidal war” against the Palestinian people, ongoing for nearly two years.
Highlighting the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Algeria urged accelerated efforts to address the catastrophic conditions faced by its population. The ministry reaffirmed that the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as its capital, is an inalienable and historic right that must not be compromised.
Algeria’s statement closes with a call for the global community to uphold justice and international law, ensuring lasting peace and security for Palestinians and the broader region.
