AliExpress reduces number of employees in Russia
The number of employees in the irrelevant departments in AliExpress Russia marketplace are being reduced.
The Russia-based Vedomosti newspaper reports, citing its sources, that the company has so far reduced about 40 per cent of its current staff. The layoffs started a month ago. First, they affected the departments responsible for the company's own purchases, which, due to the sanctions imposed on Russia, have become irrelevant.
Although AliExpress Russia declined to comment on the issue, Vedomosti's report was confirmed by several employees who had already been fired.
The publication also noted that the Russian-Chinese marketplace is not the only player on the market whose staff composition has changed after February 24, 2022. In April, Ozon online shop reported about the "optimization of projects", within which the number of employees were reduced.
Andrey Panteleev, commercial director of hh.ru recruitment service, told journalists that in March-April the number of vacancies in the e-commerce sector decreased by 19 per cent. According to him, this decline may be followed by another wave of reduction in the number of job announcements for hiring new employees in the e-commerce sphere.
