Almaty to launch robotics lab in partnership with Chinese tech firm
A new laboratory for developing and testing robotic solutions will be established in Almaty, following an agreement signed during the working visit of the city’s akim, Darkhan Satybaldi, to Shanghai.
According to Kazinform, he memorandum of understanding was signed by the Almaty Digitalization Department, the Astana Hub technopark, and the Chinese company AgiBot.
The project envisions the creation of a Robotech R&D laboratory, the launch of a “data factory” for training robots in real urban environments, the implementation of pilot projects in logistics, medicine, industry, and education, as well as workforce training in AI and robotics.
Founded in 2023, AgiBot specialises in the Embodiment + AI platform and the production of humanoid and service robots, including Yuanzheng, Lingxi, and Genie. Its investors include Sequoia, Baidu Ventures, Tencent, BYD, TCL, and LG Electronics.
Representatives of the Almaty akimat noted that the partnership will be a significant step in establishing Almaty as one of Central Asia’s key centres for embodied AI and will strengthen technological cooperation between Kazakhstan and China.
