Ambassador: Pakistan won’t use nuclear weapons against Afghanistan
Pakistan continues its military operation in response to airstrikes from Afghanistan, Pakistani Ambassador to Russia Faisal Niaz Tirmizi told TASS, ruling out the use of nuclear weapons against Afghanistan.
“Yes, we continue because they attacked us,” the diplomat said, emphasising that Islamabad would never use nuclear weapons against Afghanistan, Caliber.Az reports.
“It is impossible. We will never use nuclear weapons against any country, under any circumstances. Especially not against Afghanistan,” the ambassador noted.
Niaz Tirmizi expressed hope that the conflict with Afghanistan will soon end and will not escalate into a large-scale regional war.
Pakistan and Afghanistan have entered what Islamabad’s defence minister described as “open war,” with Pakistan launching airstrikes on Taliban government military targets in Kabul, Kandahar and other provinces on February 27 after Afghan forces fired on Pakistani positions along the Durand Line.
Both sides report significant casualties and destruction: Pakistan claims it killed over 130 Taliban fighters and destroyed multiple Afghan posts, while Afghan authorities say their offensive struck Pakistani military posts and inflicted losses.
The clashes mark a serious escalation of tensions that have been rising for months over Islamabad’s accusations that Afghan territory is used by militants to launch attacks into Pakistan.
