An-2 plane crashes in Kazakhstan after striking power lines, one dead

An An-2 aircraft carrying out aerial chemical work has crashed in Kazakhstan’s Pavlodar Region, with preliminary reports suggesting the aircraft may have struck power transmission lines, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport has stated.

The crash occurred on May 27 near the village of Zhelezinka in the Pavlodar Region, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.

The aircraft was operated by the company “Operators of Light and Ultralight Aviation” (ELISA) and was conducting agricultural chemical operations.

The aircraft hit power lines, after which it crashed, according to preliminary information.

Two people were on board. One person was killed. The second pilot was rescued from the aircraft by emergency responders from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and is reported to be conscious.

“In accordance with current legislation, the aviation incident is subject to investigation by the Department for Investigation of Transport Accidents and Incidents of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Personnel from the department have been dispatched to the site,” the Ministry of Transport said.
