Ankara sends intelligence chief to Damascus

The head of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization, Ibrahim Kalin, has embarked on a visit to Damascus, Anadolu reports, citing the information from security sources.

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa will receive Kalin for expected discussions on bilateral and regional security affairs, as well as recent developments.

The visit marks a new phase in Ankara-Damascus contacts, following years of frozen diplomatic ties since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011. While normalisation efforts stalled in 2023, momentum resumed in late 2024 amid shifting regional alliances.
