Türkiye and Armenia have agreed to accelerate efforts to restore the Kars–Gyumri railway, following a meeting of their Joint Working Group held in the eastern Turkish city of Kars on April 28, 2026.
According to Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting took place under the framework of the ongoing normalisation process between the two countries, with officials focusing on practical steps to rehabilitate and bring the long-dormant cross-border rail line back into operation, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
In a statement, the ministry said the group was established to advance the rehabilitation and reactivation of the railway and reaffirmed that both sides underlined the importance of launching the Kars–Gyumri link “as soon as possible” as part of broader efforts to enhance regional transport connectivity.
