Another accomplice arrested in attempted hit on Russian general

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has announced the arrest of a third alleged accomplice in the attempted assassination of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, first deputy head of the main directorate of Russia's military general staff.

The detainee has reportedly provided a full confession, including details pointing to surveillance of other senior Russian military officials, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The suspect has been identified as Pavel Vasin, a Russian national. The FSB’s Public Relations Centre said that he is the son of another defendant in the case, Viktor Vasin.

“Pavel Vasin gave confessions, including information that made it possible to identify two additional high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation who were being monitored, in the interests of Ukrainian intelligence services, by Lyubomir Korba and Viktor Vasin, with the aim of subsequently carrying out sabotage and terrorist acts,” the FSB said in a statement.

The security service said that Vasin provided logistical support to the previously detained suspects, including alleged Ukrainian Security Service agent Lyubomir Korba and his father. According to the FSB, he supplied vehicles used for conducting external surveillance and for retrieving weapons from a hidden cache.

Investigators also allege that Vasin purchased technical surveillance equipment, including a dash camera and a tracking device, which were used to monitor targets and determine their travel routes.

“In addition, the suspect assisted the perpetrators in collecting information on the residential addresses and vehicles of individuals of interest to the SBU, using internet applications and search engines,” the FSB added.

The assassination attempt occurred on the morning of February 6 in a residential building on Volokolamskoye Highway in Moscow. An assailant opened fire in the elevator lobby, seriously wounding General Alexeyev. He was hospitalized in critical condition and regained consciousness the following morning, on February 7.

Two suspects have been detained in connection with the attack. The Federal Security Service (FSB) has identified the alleged gunman as 66-year-old Lyubomir Korba, who, according to the agency, was recruited by Ukraine’s Security Service in August 2025.
