Another Turkish mayor detained in corruption probe

Authorities in Türkiye have detained Erdal Beşikçioğlu, the mayor of Ankara's Etimesgut district, as part of an ongoing corruption investigation that has already targeted several municipal leaders across the country.

The Western Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued detention warrants for 55 people, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.

During the operation, police searched the Etimesgut Municipality building.

After undergoing a medical examination, Beşikçioğlu was taken to the General Directorate of Security.

Investigators are continuing their operation, carrying out searches at dozens of locations and in the suspects' offices and vehicles

Earlier, Turkish authorities also issued a detention warrant for Hüseyin Can Güner, the mayor of Ankara's Çankaya district.

İzmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet was also targeted, while Üsküdar Mayor Sinem Dedetaş was detained and Adalar Municipality Mayor Ali Ercan Akpolat was arrested as part of the ongoing investigations.
