Anti-government protesters launch mass hunger strike in Yerevan
The organiser of a rally aimed at ousting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's government, Chairman of the Democratic Consolidation Party Suren Petrosyan, who staged a rally in front of the Armenian parliament, has announced the beginning of a mass hunger strike.
"All clergymen, including Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, intellectuals, scientists, cultural figures, sportsmen, they should all join this struggle. Its goal is to join all these layers of society," Petrosyan said, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.
He added that after that, concrete and quick actions will be presented that will lead to a change of power.
"There will be such actions that have no alternative and will lead to success. This is a decisive moment, hence, please join," he concluded.
The protesters marched to the monument of Nazi Garegin Nzhdeh in the centre of Yerevan, where they intend to hold a hunger strike.
Protests have been taking place in the centre of Yerevan for two days already. The protesters demanded the resignation of Pashinyan and his entire team.
