Arab and Islamic FMs gather in Doha after Israeli strike on Hamas residence
An extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers from the Arab League (AL) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) began behind closed doors in Doha, convened in response to an Israeli strike targeting a Hamas residence in the Qatari capital.
The session aims to develop a unified position regarding Israel’s attack on Hamas politburo members in Doha, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
According to Majid bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, advisor to the Qatari Prime Minister and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participants will also draft the final resolution for the upcoming Arab League and OIC summit scheduled in Doha on September 15.
Arab and Islamic leaders are expected to strongly condemn Israel’s strike on the Hamas residence and express solidarity with Qatari authorities. The final summit document will reportedly include language denouncing attacks on the territory of countries playing a mediating role in regional conflicts.
Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani described the Israeli strike as an act of state terrorism. Speaking to CNN, he stated the attack occurred while Hamas leaders were discussing the latest U.S. proposal to resolve the Gaza conflict. Sheikh Mohammed added that Qatar is reassessing its mediation role in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that Israel’s actions have “destroyed any hope” for the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
