Arab League to convene emergency meeting over Iran strikes
Foreign ministers of the Arab League will hold an emergency meeting on March 7 to discuss “Iranian attacks on the territories of several Arab countries”, the bloc’s assistant secretary-general Hossam Zaki announced.
The meeting, which will be held via video conference, was requested by Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Jordan and Egypt, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Iran has been launching widespread missile and drone strikes across Gulf states, targeting military bases, infrastructure, and sometimes civilian areas in retaliation for recent US‑Israeli air attacks on Iranian territory, drawing sharp condemnation from affected Arab nations.
These strikes have hit several Arab countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, where air defences have intercepted hundreds of missiles and drones, but some have nonetheless caused casualties and damage.
Gulf Cooperation Council leaders and the European Union have publicly condemned Iran’s attacks as violations of international law and security, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities and greater regional restraint.
Arab League member states have repeatedly emphasised that their regional security is “indivisible” and urged Iran to stop actions that undermine stability, even as diplomatic efforts — especially by Oman and Qatar — seek to prevent further escalation.
