Lavrov: Arctic Council poised to remain relevant amid geopolitical changes
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized the Arctic Council’s potential to maintain its significance, noting that Russia is actively working to support the body amid evolving global geopolitical conditions.
He made the remarks during a meeting of the Council of Heads of Russian Regions under the Foreign Ministry, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Lavrov pointed to tangible progress in the council’s activities and highlighted the expansion of cooperation with non-regional countries committed to responsible and equitable engagement in the Arctic.
As an illustration, he cited partnerships with China and India, where dedicated working groups have been established to explore and develop the transport and logistics potential of the Northern Sea Route, a critical maritime corridor for regional trade and economic development.
