Armed assault targets former Armenian lawmaker in Yerevan
Mihran Hakobyan, a former Armenian MP and a member of the Republican Party of Armenia, was reportedly attacked in Yerevan in a violent incident.
Hakobyan’s lawyer, Ruben Melikyan, shared details of the attack on social media. The incident occurred near the Dalma Garden Mall, with the assailants reportedly wearing masks, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Melikyan confirmed that Hakobyan sustained injuries and was subsequently transported to the Izmirlian Medical Centre for medical treatment. The lawyer also suggested that the assault might have been avoided if authorities had apprehended the individuals who, in 2021, threw a grenade in front of Hakobyan’s residence.
Hakobyan served as a parliamentarian during the presidency of Serzh Sargsyan, underscoring his prominence within Armenian political circles.
