Gunmen storm mining project in Pakistan, killing at least nine
At least nine people were killed after armed attackers targeted a copper and gold mining project operated by National Resources Ltd (NRL) in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, according to local authorities.
The company confirmed the incident occurred on the evening of April 22 at the Darigwan site, adding that security forces have since taken control of the area, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
An unnamed local administration source said the dead include at least nine individuals, among them two security guards.
Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran, is rich in natural resources but remains one of Pakistan’s most volatile regions due to ongoing security and political instability.
Separately, Barrick Mining had previously indicated it was reassessing its Reko Diq copper and gold project in the region, citing worsening security conditions.
