Armed scuffle breaks out at copper plant in Armenia, resulting in casualties and detentions
A clash involving weapons broke out among workers at the Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine in Armenia, resulting in injuries.
The incident occurred between striking employees and those opposing the strike, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The striking workers, armed with firearms and knives, attacked those who wanted to continue working.
According to the Armenian Interior Ministry's press service, authorities received a report about the altercation in Kajaran.
"Police were dispatched to the scene and prevented further escalation. At present, eight individuals have been detained," the statement said.
Reports indicate that some employees of the plant have been on strike for several days, demanding a 50% wage increase, which the administration considers unacceptable. Negotiations between the parties are ongoing.
