Armenia appoints new ambassador to United States
Narek Mkrtchyan has been appointed as Armenia’s Ambassador to the United States, succeeding Lilit Makunts, whose diplomatic tenure officially concluded on August 23, as confirmed by the US Embassy in Yerevan.
The appointment was formalized by a presidential decree signed by President Vahagn Khachaturyan, following the recommendation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Mkrtchyan previously served as Minister of Labor and Social Affairs from 2021 until his dismissal earlier this week in preparation for his new diplomatic role.
Lilit Makunts was recalled from her ambassadorial post by presidential decree, marking the end of her term in Washington.
Arsen Torosyan, a former Minister of Health and Member of Parliament representing the ruling party, has been appointed as Mkrtchyan’s successor at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.
