Armenia appoints new intelligence chief for General Staff

Samvel Movsisyan has been appointed as the new head of the Armenian Armed Forces General Staff's Main Intelligence Directorate, as well as the General Staff's new deputy head.

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan signed the relevant decrees on January 25, Caliber.Az reports, quoting Armenian media.

In another decision, Deputy Chief of General Staff Arakel Martikyan was also relieved of his duties in another decision.

Armenia has been without an intelligence chief for nearly a year. From August 2021 to February 2022, Major General Arayik Harutyunyan led the General Staff Intelligence Department.
