Armenia appoints new minister of economy
Armenia has appointed a new Minister of Economy, Georg Papoyan, an MP from the ruling Civil Contract party.
Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan signed the decree appointing Papoyan to the ministerial role, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The appointment follows the dismissal of Vahan Kerobyan from the position on February 14 amidst allegations of misconduct related to a state tender.
Kerobyan's dismissal came amid accusations stemming from a criminal case involving irregularities in a state tender process. The Investigative Committee of Armenia had previously announced charges against seven individuals in connection with the case, including the Deputy Minister of Economy and the head of the prominent IT company 'Synergy.' Notably, among those implicated were several current and former employees of the company, as well as the spouse of the brother of the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament.
