Armenia appoints new officials in General Staff

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturian has signed decrees on the appointment of a deputy head of the General Staff and heads of departments of the country's Armed Forces.

Karen Grigoryan (previously served as the head of the engineering troops department) and Temur Shahnazaryan (part-time head of the main operational department) were appointed deputy heads of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Caliber.Az reports citing the Armenian media.

Earlier, Shahnazaryan served as head of the communications and automatic control systems department of the General Staff. He will be replaced in this post by Vigen Mkrtchyan.

David Aleksanyan has been appointed head of the combat training department of the Armenian Armed Forces.

Armen Seyranyan has been appointed head of the strategic planning department of the Armed Forces. The peacekeeping brigade will be headed by Hamlet Levonyan.

Former head of the brigade Arsen Mangasaryan will head the Vazgen Sargsyan Military University.

According to Hraparak newspaper, the Armenian leadership intends to get rid of “pro-Russian elements” in the Defence Ministry and the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
