Armenia appoints new ombudsman
12 April 2023 11:52
Armenia's parliament has elected Deputy Prosecutor General Anahit Manasyan as the country's new ombudsman.
Around 69 MPs voted in favour, Caliber.Az reports, quoting Armenian media.
Manasyan's candidacy was proposed by the ruling Civil Contract party.
On January 24, 2023, Armenia’s Ombudsperson, Christine Grigoryan, was stripped of powers on the basis of her resignation letter. Grigoryan has been in office for a year and was appointed on January 24, 2022, following the end of her term by Arman Tatoyan, whom the authorities decided not to nominate for a second term.
