Armenia briefs EU delegation on peace with Azerbaijan, regional cooperation

Armenia and the European Union discussed the further development of bilateral relations, regional connectivity and efforts to institutionalise peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan during a meeting in Yerevan, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said.

Deputy Foreign Minister and International Trade Minister Vahan Kostanyan met with a visiting delegation of the Council of the EU’s Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia (COEST), comprising representatives of more than two dozen EU member states, the European External Action Service and the European Commission, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.

The meeting focused on the agenda of Armenia-EU relations, with Kostanyan emphasising the Armenian government’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the EU in line with legislation adopted by Armenia’s National Assembly to launch the country’s European integration process.

They also discussed the implementation of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the Strategic Agenda for the EU-Armenia Partnership, as well as prospects for expanding cooperation in the security sector.

Regional connectivity was another key topic. The participants discussed the EU-Armenia Connectivity Partnership, including Armenia’s integration into regional transport networks and the development of inclusive connectivity.

The EU delegation was also briefed on steps aimed at institutionalising peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The sides discussed opportunities for regional cooperation that could emerge from the established peace, according to the Armenian Foreign Ministry and International Trade Ministry.
