Armenia credits Azerbaijani gasoline for stabilising prices

01 May 2026 16:29

Armenia’s Minister of Economy, Gevork Papoyan, said on Friday, May 1, that gasoline imports from Azerbaijan have helped prevent a sharp increase in domestic fuel prices amid instability in the Middle East and ongoing turbulence in global energy markets, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

According to Papoyan, in the past, a 10% rise in global gasoline prices could translate into a 50% increase in Armenia. He noted that the current situation is “diametrically opposite,” with global gasoline prices rising significantly while increases in Armenia have remained minimal due to supplies from the neighbouring country.

The minister added that without imports from Azerbaijan, gasoline prices in Armenia could have risen by several hundred drams (approximately $1 equals 376 drams).

Since the beginning of the year, when Armenia began importing gasoline from Azerbaijan, domestic prices declined from 500–520 drams per litre to 440–460 drams per litre. However, amid ongoing military activity around Iran, prices have since returned to late-2025 levels of 500–520 drams per litre.
