Armenia does not rule out direct gas supplies from Azerbaijan, MP says

11 August 2026 14:18

Armenia does not rule out receiving gas directly from Azerbaijan, with a future pipeline under the TRIPP project potentially becoming an additional source of gas for the country, Ruling Civil Contract party MP Sargis Khandanyan has said.

He noted that if the issue of revising the price of Russian gas arises, Armenia will discuss the matter amicably with its Russian partners, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

However, he stressed that diversifying gas supplies is important and also noted that during the latest visit of Armenia’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure to Iran, the possibility of increasing gas supplies from the Islamic Republic was discussed.

“The TRIPP project also concerns a gas pipeline, meaning that a gas pipeline will be laid through the territory of Armenia as part of the project. And this is probably another opportunity to have an additional source of gas. Although, of course, this is theoretical, in practice it is not difficult to implement,” Khandanyan added.

He also did not rule out a scenario involving direct gas supplies from Azerbaijan to Armenia.
