Armenia extends Metsamor nuclear plant’s lifespan to 2046
11 February 2026 19:12
Armenia’s Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant will now operate until 2046, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced during a government hour session in parliament.
“Following the current cycle of extending the Armenian NPP’s operational lifespan to 2036, it will be further extended by ten years, to 2046. During this period, a decision will need to be made regarding the construction of a new plant,” Pashinyan said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Earlier plans had considered an extension only until 2036, but the government has now established a new maximum operational term for the plant, reflecting Armenia’s ongoing reliance on Metsamor for energy production.
