Armenia eyes Türkiye border opening, strengthens EU partnership
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has signaled bold steps toward regional transformation, highlighting the potential opening of the Armenia-Türkiye border and major infrastructure projects. He said the agreements reached on August 8 in Washington have opened unprecedented opportunities for the country and the region.
Speaking during a briefing following the 6th meeting of the EU-Armenia Partnership Council on December 2, Mirzoyan highlighted ongoing discussions with European partners regarding the implementation of the TRIPP project, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“Additional steps, including the potential opening of the border between Armenia and Türkiye and the execution of major infrastructure programs, could significantly reshape the political and economic architecture of the entire region,” Mirzoyan said.
He also announced that the first Armenia-EU summit is scheduled for May 2026, describing it as a landmark event for the country. The minister extended an invitation to European counterparts to attend the summit in Yerevan.
