Five foreign climbers die during ascent of Mount Elbrus

Five foreign climbers have died while attempting to summit Mount Elbrus, with a rescue operation continuing throughout the night, according to the 112 Telegram channel.

The report said the group consisted of seven citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. At an altitude of more than 5,100 meters, several climbers began experiencing medical distress. One member of the group managed to descend on his own and alerted emergency services.

A second survivor was evacuated by rescuers from Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry (EMERCOM) and handed over to medical personnel. The two survivors remain under medical observation.

Five members of the expedition were confirmed dead. The bodies of two climbers remain on the Elbrus saddle at an altitude of 5,350 meters, where recovery efforts have been hampered by adverse weather conditions. Search operations for the remaining three climbers are still ongoing.
