Armenia faces choice between Eurasian, European alliances, says Putin
01 April 2026 19:21
Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that Armenia cannot simultaneously be a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union (EU).
Speaking during talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Putin acknowledged Yerevan’s growing ties with Brussels but underscored the limitations of dual membership in customs unions, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“We see that there is a discussion in Armenia about developing relations with the European Union. We regard this absolutely calmly. We understand that any country seeks to maximize benefits from cooperation with third countries,” Putin said, emphasizing Moscow’s acceptance of Armenia’s pursuit of broader international partnerships.
