Armenian, Iranian security chiefs hold talks in Tehran on Baku-Yerevan peace process updated

30 August 2025 14:39

During a working visit to Tehran, Secretary of Armenia’s National Security Council Armen Grigoryan held a meeting with Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, the press service of the Armenian Security Council said in a statement.

The discussions focused on recent developments in the South Caucasus, including the initialling of a peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku in Washington on August 8, mediated by the United States, Caliber.Az reports, referencing Armenian media.

“The meeting discussed recent regional events, in the context of which Grigoryan presented the agreements signed on August 8 [in Washington] [between Armenia and Azerbaijan, mediated by the United States]. He noted that the process of unblocking the region's economic infrastructure will be carried out exclusively within the framework of full respect for the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction, inviolability of borders, and reciprocity,” the statement from Yerevan’s Security Council said.

According to the statement, Larijani welcomed the agreements aimed at fostering peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, underlining the importance of ensuring stability and security in the South Caucasus.

In addition to regional issues, the two sides discussed the Armenian-Iranian bilateral agenda, emphasising the importance of enhancing economic cooperation and further strengthening ties between Yerevan and Tehran.
