Armenia, Iran discuss extradition of fugitives, legal cooperation
Armenian Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan and Iranian Minister of Justice Amin Hossein Rahimi held a high-level meeting in Yerevan on September 25 to discuss key issues related to extradition and mutual legal assistance, as part of efforts to deepen judicial cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
The talks, which also included Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, focused on strengthening bilateral legal ties and improving mechanisms for the extradition of wanted individuals and broader legal support frameworks, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
In a statement released by the Armenian Prosecutor General’s Office, Vardapetyan emphasised the importance of expanding cooperation between the legal institutions of both countries, underlining the need for closer sectoral collaboration.
Iran’s Justice Minister Rahimi expressed his gratitude for the meeting and reaffirmed Tehran’s willingness to engage on matters of mutual interest. He also commended Armenia’s efforts in combating corruption, noting the significance of international cooperation in law enforcement and judicial matters.
The meeting addressed specific issues related to the extradition of fugitives and the provision of legal assistance across borders.
Minister Rahimi arrived in Armenia on September 24, at the official invitation of Armenia’s Minister of Justice, Srbuhi Galyan.
