Armenia, Iran plan strategic partnership agreement in 2026
Armenia and Iran intend to sign a comprehensive strategic partnership document during Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to Tehran in 2026, Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami said.
Speaking at a reception marking the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, the diplomat stated that the two sides aim to institutionalise relations within a comprehensive strategic framework and significantly expand both the scope and depth of cooperation through an operational roadmap, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
Shirgholami emphasised that ties between the peoples of Iran and Armenia date back millennia and described the current stage as a continuation of their shared cultural and civilizational heritage.
He noted that 2025 was marked by positive developments and high-level reciprocal visits, culminating in Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s trip to Yerevan in August.
According to the ambassador, bilateral relations have reached a stage of maturity, with mutual trust between the leaders serving as the main asset of the strategic partnership.
He also highlighted the importance of developing regional communications and transit routes, welcomed the peace process in the South Caucasus, and described peace and friendship among nations as essential conditions for comprehensive development.
