Armenia launches criminal case after crash kills serviceman
A driver has been arrested after a vehicle struck several Armenian servicemen, killing one, with a criminal case opened over the incident and the driver’s departure from the scene.
The accident occurred on August 19 at around 9 p.m. on the road leading to the city of Chambarak. The vehicle involved was a GAZ-53 truck driven by a local resident, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
The serviceman who died was identified as Suren Vardanyan.
The other servicemen involved in the incident were taken to a military hospital after their families were notified in accordance with established procedures. Their lives are not in danger, and they remain under medical observation.
Armenia’s Defence Ministry expressed its condolences and support to the family and relatives of the deceased serviceman.
An investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
