Armenia negotiating new dam project on Araz River with Türkiye

Armenia has been in talks with Türkiye for the past year and a half regarding the construction of a dam on the banks of the Araz River along the shared border.

The Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure confirmed in response to a media inquiry that discussions on the project documents with the Turkish side are continuing, with the mediation of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Caliber.Az reports.

The ministry explained that, since the Araz is a border river, Armenia had decided to inform Türkiye about planned works to strengthen the river’s banks. Officials added that construction would begin once the approval process is completed.
