Armenia opens investigation following death of serviceman

Armenian authorities have launched a criminal investigation into the death of a serviceman, the country’s Investigative Committee has confirmed.

Preliminary findings suggest that Smbat Kirakosyan may have shot himself with his service weapon, Caliber.Az reports.

The Committee’s press secretary, Kima Avdalyan, shared this information on social media.

The body of the serviceman, with a gunshot wound, was discovered on December 12 at around 16:00 local time in one of the Ministry of Defence’s military units.

Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
