Armenia plans e-gates at border checkpoints
Armenia plans to introduce automated e-gate systems at its border checkpoints as part of the rollout of biometric passports, the press service of the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs told Armenian media, as per Caliber.Az.
The e-gate technology is designed to automate and streamline border-control procedures. After scanning a biometric passport, the system can automatically verify a traveler’s identity and allow them to pass through the checkpoint without direct intervention by a border officer.
The technology is expected to speed up border crossings and reduce waiting times, while making the process largely contactless.
The planned introduction of e-gates alongside biometric passports would represent a further step toward the digitalisation and automation of Armenia’s border-control infrastructure.
