Armenia’s former defence chief may be arrested
Armenia's prosecutor-general may address parliament on the arrest of a war criminal, former Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan, head of [former Armenian President Robert] Kocharyan's opposition Armenia faction, as early as next week.
An informed source at the Armenian Prosecutor-General’s Office stated that Seyran Ohanyan will be the first that Prosecutor-General Anna Vardapetyan will ask to strip of his parliamentary immunity, Caliber.Az reports, citing Zhoghovurd newspaper.
The arrests of [MPs] Vahe Hakobyan and Armen Charchyan have been postponed until next year. In addition, the authorities do not rule out the possibility that they themselves will resign.
Armenia’s Corruption Prevention Commission told the newspaper that Ohanyan is accused of embezzlement during the alienation of the Dzoraget hydroelectric power plant’s assets. The MP himself denies all the accusations.
